What to Look for in a Glueless Wig ?
What ls a Glueless Wig ?
According to Ayana Johnson, hair and wig stylist , there are a few things to know about glueless wigs before you start wearing them. “The concept of the glueless wig has been around for years," she explains, “Typically, a glueless wig features adjustable straps and elastic bands in the back, along with embedded combs and clips. While these accessories provide a more secure fit, their anti-slip effectiveness is limited to smaller lace areas, such as 5x5 or 4x4.When the lace areas get larger, issues like slipping and lace lifting can become problematic."
“In addition to the embedded strap, band, and combs, there are three key aspects I look at carefully," Johnson says.
The wig cap structure
“The sewing design of the cap is crucial," says Johnson. “For a glueless yet seamless fit, the wig cap should have a 3D dome shape that lays flat on your crown. Most importantly, the frontal lace area should contour to the shape of your forehead, providing a snug, forehead-hugging fit,”
High-qualitylace
"The quality of lace is also a key but easy-to-neglect factor when choosing a glueless wig," says Johnson. “The softer and thinner the lace, the less likely it is to lift. HD lace is highly recommended; otherwise, you may still need to apply glue or spray on the entire hairline to melt down your lace.”
Clean Knots
“Further bleaching will damage the lace and cause severe shedding. I would choose wigs with clean knots (pre-bleached) to avoid any of those hassles and further problems, This choice not only saves on stylist fees, but also makes the glueless wig ready to wear right out of the box.”
